First continuity assignment

Josh Rimmer
500 WORD EVALUATION
My favourite aspect of my video was the transition between the videos; they were very smooth and the match on action was very good with nearly no problems with the transitions; where there were problems we worked hard to cover them up and almost got away with it. The whole team got involved with the project and did their jobs. We managed to stick to the 100 degree rule, (just).
There was one scene that didn’t go so well while it was being edited was when the character goes through the door and it cuts to his face, I didn’t like the way it cut, the reaction and the sound of the door was cut far too quick and made the editing look a bit cheesy. The match on action that is in the shot with the gun when it is being loaded is very good and is my favourite shot because the way it is done gives it a great style to it and the way is show the gun being loaded just before the door was opened gives you the idea of what going to happen in the room.
The volume of people speaking should have been louder and in the scene with the character leaving the sound of the door was cut from the video because it was cut too quickly though that was a hard cut because the shot of the character leaving had to be shot quickly and while in editing a continuity error was spotted at the end of the shot so the editing of the shot had to be cut down which got rid of some of the sound.
I thought everyone put in great effort and worked really well together; some of the scenes had to be done a few times because I was laughing but I eventually got serous. No one had any issues and everyone got along. When editing there was a problem with understanding assignment but learning how to use premiere pro was difficult and required many re – reads of the instruction paper. Unfortunately one of the team members was unable to be with us when editing so they have a disadvantage when it comes to the next project. I personally had a hard time trying to understand its usage and we had an incident when the tutor accidently removed the work and spent about twenty minutes trying to get it back and luckily they succeeded.

  1. Very well rpesented, Josh; good use of the blog to rpesent your material. You need to try to incorporate more of the technical language of continuity - establishing shot, 180 degree rule, eyeline match cut, match cut on action etc. Apart from this, a very promising firts piece. Well done.
