Film distrabution

When realeasing a film it's very important to discuss with producers/distribution companies when to realease your project as timing it right can cause your viewings of the project to increase dramatically. If for example as it's christmas soon all the feastive films are being realsed because people will want to see them now. If they were realeased in the summer how many people do you think will want to watch them. They also have to make the marketing of the film eg posters, trailers, billboards and so on; nother good way to get word out about your film is word of mouth or you could snowball it.

These have to appeal to the target audience, so if it has to clearly convay what kind of film it is and it needs to look like the kind of thing that willmake people of the age you want to attract watch. Sometimes when a film is realeased it will become a sleeper hit which means it will stay in cinema's for longer beacuse it's become an unexspected success.

When they realease the teaser trailer it will show only a little information about the film but they will show it in cinema's when they are showing a film of a similar genre that way they will have more chance of there main target audience seeing it. A film is a very risky way to make money and a way of making it less of a risk when realsing it is the try to avoid pre-conceptions or assumptions in the marketing of it.

The audience to films change all the time, for example a family with young children will probably go to see a family fim but as they get older they will start to watch more grown up things. One very good way to get information out about your film is the internet, you can have your actors blog about it, you can set up a website or put trailers online as well. If you get enough information out on the internet then social networking will do the rest, once one person puts a status on facebook saying about the movie they just it wont be long before all there friends are talking about it and there friends and there's and so on and so forth until there's many many people talking about it and wanting to see the movie.

If you have big stars or directors involved in the project then it's a good idea to get that out because that will get the fans of those people wanting to see the newest movie with them in. When they were marketing the woman in black they ensured that everyone knew that Daniel Radcliff was in it because Harry Potter fans would make up the majority of the audience and it worked; the Woman in Black made $54,322,273 after only being made for roughly seventeen million; this is a fine example of what the internet and publication can do

  1. This does not really show that you can extract information from written sources in a systematic, organised way, and to structure your notes well. You have done enough from other sources during your research to get a Merit but to get a Distinction on GC 1 for Unit 2 you will have to do a lot of work on this one. We can discuss it during the improvements week.
